Essential oils
The essential oils are gained across extraction of aromatic plant material with a high level on essences, as for instance flowers or some fruits and herbs like basil, sage or origano. The oils are mixtures of chemical substances, which have their origins in the plants. Essential oils can be prepared from weed and herbs, as for example black pepper or cinnamon.
For evaluating the antibiotic qualities of the essential oil, it’s necessary the utilization of an aroma- machine, which measures the sensibility of the different bacteriums in the essential oils. The essential oils are gained by the following plant parts: flowers, leaves, tree barks, petals, seeds, wood, roots and pericarp. The essential oils are an important part of the aromatherapy, which thanks to its perfumes can alleviate physical and emotional problems. In case of colds it’s possible to make inhalations with manuka oil, ravensara oil or tea tree oil. All these oils are all popular for their expectorant and anti- microbic qualities. The aromatherapy was invented in France at the beginning of the 20th century, when the French chemical René Maurice Gattefossé discovered the usefulness of lavender essence for curing war wounds of the French military. The aromatherapy was codifized by the French doctor Jean Valnet in a convention in 1964.
The essential oils are divided into different groups: skin-irritating, warming oils like that of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, arnica, rosemary or garlic. Another group of essential oils act on the nervous system, or facilitate the sleep like valerian, balm, neroli, oregano, rose or chamomille as well as oils with antibiotic effects like that of ravensara, manuka, tea tree, coriander, thyme, lemon, pine and sandal. Other oils which act against cramps and convulsions are: chamomile, cinnamon, sage, fennel, lavender, marjoram, melissa and cardamom. The balsamic oils are: eucalyptus, tea tree, common spruce, lavender, mint, niaouli and okra.
Oils against inflammations are: eucalyptus, yarrow, rose, ginger, cajeput, lemon, chamomile. Oils against flatulences are: oregano, caraway, green anise, garlic, savory, coriander and tarragon. Oils against insects are: cedar, lavender, lemon, mint, thyme, turpentine, vervain from India and geranium. The essential oils can also be mixed with a carrier oil and then be used for massages (sweet almond, safflower, black currant, sesame oil) as well as for inhalations, or as a room perfume, for baths, mud- baths, wet packs etc. Some are actually eatable, putting some drops of them on some sugar or directly into the beverage.
