      Rolfing massage

The Rolfing massage was born in the USA in the forties and fifties thanks to the American doctor Ida Rolf (1896-1979). She made her promotion in the twenties at the Columbia University and elaborated her method thanks to the knowledge of Yoga, homeopathy, chiropratics and the disciplines of mind and osteopathy. All this sciences emphasize the inseparability of body and mind, in fact the Rolfing slogan affirms: “When one part of the body is in difficulty, the whole body is losing his balance.” When doctor Rolf died in 1979 in the USA, already 2000 persons worked with her method.

This massage targets to improve the posture in about 10 sessions, thanks to manipulations of the muscular tendons. The movements are slowly and profound. The Rolfing massage wants to allineate the body and its parts, “listening” to its requests, even the listening and the “verbalization” of the problem are very important. As already mentioned the sessions of the Rolfing massage are 10, the therapist works without creams and oils, during every session the masseur works on a specific part of the body: in one on the rib cage, in the other on the back…this part of the body and the neck are the most important. The Rolfing massage is recommended for people of every age and particularly for persons with osteoarticular problems, to reduce stress, to improve the posture. It avoids the excessive utilization of anti- rheumatics and analgetics.

This kind of massage is also recommended for children and seniors, as it helps to maintain the elasticity of the tissues and to facilitate a good motory capacity. The Rolfing method is also a perfect kind of therapy during convalescence after a debilitating illness…similar to Pilates. This massage is very useful in case of posture problems, the decisive manipulations are based on movements made daily by the patient, individuating the erroneous posture, blockades and rigidity. The Rolfing massage makes the body more flexible and its movements more fluid and smooth, as the manipulations soften the rigidity of the tendons, the ligaments and fibres. The massage is also useful for learning to breath deeply without releases and interruptions, the erect posture is maintained without efforts.
