      Wellness and diet

      The concepts wellness and diet are connected to each other since antiquity, both in the Orient and Occident. The Ayurvedic medicine considers nutrition as very important, even in the Occident this was a common believe, as already Hippocrates emphasized: “Let food be your medicine”. Today the nutritionists, doctors and nutritionists advise to follow the food regime based on carbohydrates, vegetable proteins, vitamins and fibers, limiting to the utmost animal fats.

      This kind of diet helps the organism not only to remain young, limiting the attacks of radicals, but it also reduces the risks of tumors, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson, depression. A lot ot centennial if questioned about their nutrition answer, that they used to eat much vegetables, fruit, bread, pasta, legumes, fish, little meat and little wine: actually the classical Mediterranean diet…

      The beneficial of this kind of diet have been noticed for the first time by Ancel Keys, an American doctor after the Fifth US Army stationed in Cilento. Doctor Keys noticed that the living conditions in this place weren’t at a US – level, nonetheless the habitants lived long. This doctor began to study their diet, identifying the above mentioned elements. Back in the United States he submitted his work to the examination of the scientific community, which recognized the great value of this kind of nutrition, comparing it to the Japanese, Finnish, Yugoslavian and US food regimes. His studies about the food habits of several nations and folks continued for many years!

      Following this healthy living style, people can not only avoid bad diseases but they can avoid small problems such as colds, bad digestion or sexual malfunctions as well. This diet also slows down the aging process, thanks to the presence of olive oil and dry fruit, very rich in vitamin E and lycopene, a very powerful natural antioxidant contained in tomatoes. Furthermore it’s a valid allied of the good humor, due to the presence of carbohydrates, which stimulate the production of Serotonin, the good humor- hormone.

    • almonds

      The almonds are a main aliment of the Mediterranean diet, actually Italy, especially Sicily is one of the major producers of this legume. Almonds are used in bakeries, for other products such as the almond milk or the almond cookies. Beside from being delicious, they are also excellent to support our healthiness and beauty. Moreover almonds are less fatty than nuts. They donate an elastic skin, healthy hair and a low level of cholesterol. These legumes are rich in vitamin E, which is a very powerful antioxidantium, moreover almonds are rich in vitamin B, fatty acids, magnesium, potassium, copper, iron and phosphor.

      The sweet almond oil is well- known for its softening, repairing and emollient qualities. Moreover this oil is available in many supermarkets, it’s cheap and very efficient. The almond milk is delicious and has refreshing qualities, it’s recommended for newborns who are intolerant to cow milk. Almonds are recommended in case of asthenia, convalescence, denutrition, pregnancy, anemia, physical and intellectual overexertion. They are excellent for sportsmen, beside from protecting the skin from stretch marks, they tone the skin, the almond oil is excellent to reduce the bags under the eyes. Beside from having excellent laxative qualities, almonds delay the emersion of white hair, they prevent osteoporosis. 

    • aloe

      Aloe is a very common plant for its anti-tumoral, depurative, lenitive, freshening, anti- inflammatory, immune stimulant and antimycotic properties. Even the Egyptians defined it as the plant of immortality, Aloe stimulates the vital functions of the organism, such as the peristalsis. For example drinking a glass of tepid water in the morning mixed with lemon juice and some aloe helps to purify the body. Moreover this domestic remedy is very useful in case of constipation and colics.


      Aloe is an excellent antioxidant as it stimulates the production of collagen and invigorates the skin. It’s useful in case of gastrointestinal problems, as it reduces the ferments, it favors the balance of the bacterial flora and of the PH value. Aloe is also rich in folic acid, which is indispensable during pregnancy.

    • broccoli

      Broccoli is a winter vegetable which belongs to the same family as the cabbage- the cruciferous plants. The steaming of the broccoli maintains its nutritive qualities. Broccoli is very rich in vitamin C, beta- carotenes and vitamins of the group B, moreover it contains quercetin, excellent to combat bowel cancer. Broccoli is rich in the following minerals: phosphor, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, folic acid. Furthermore broccoli prevents diseases at the thyroid, asthma, osteoporosis, stomach cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and breast cancer.

      Broccoli stimulates the immunitary defences and neutralizes the Helicobacter Pylori, which causes ulcers and gastritis. This vegetable is also excellent to contrast problems and diseases like congestion, the cataract, ictus, hydric retention, degenerative diseases such as the Alzheimer’s disease. It stimulates the heart activity. Broccoli has also detoxicating, vermicidial, anti- anemic, emollient, purifying, diuretic, calming, anti- inflammatory properties. Broccoli is also beneficial for the cure of diseases of the respiratory, digestive, osteo- muscular and lymph system. The consumption of broccoli is also particulary recommended for pregnant women, avoiding malformations of the child.

    • cabbage

      The cabbage is a winter vegetable which belongs to the cruciferous plants, it’s known for its anti- tumoral, detoxicating and antioxidant qualities. It protects the body from winter illnesses thanks  to its richness in vitamins: A, group B, folic acids, PP, C,K. The cabbage is very rich in minerals: phosphor, calcium, iodine, arsis, iron, sulfur, potassium, copper, magnesium. The regular consumption of cabbage protects from diseases like ictus, cataract, high pressure and other circulatory problems. Moreover the cabbage protects from colon tumors, tumors at the pancreas, the uterus, the throat, the gullet and the stomach.

      Today people can buy the juice of crude cabbage, which could be mixed with some carrot or lemon juice.  It’s excellent in case of exhaustion or vitamin deficiency. It’s also useful in case of nervousness, to tone the skin and the hair, in case of cough and asthma. It is excellent to disinfect the intestine and it has vermicidial qualities. The boiling water of the cabbage helps in case of congestion, dysentery, diarrhea. In case of drunkenness the day after it’s helpful to drink concentrated cabbage soup. Together with the boiled water the cabbage is useful to cure voice problems, bronchitis, colds. According to the folk medicine, the cabbage cures the following problems: abscesses, arthrosis, furuncles, cystitis, pharyngitis, hemorrhoids, ulcers, hepatic problems.

    • cherry

      The cherries are summer fruits, they are popular for their laxative, adipsous qualities, beside from their richness in the vitamins A,B,C,E,PP. They contain the following mineral salts: potassium, phosphor, calcium, iron, sodium, brimstone, copper, manganese and magnesium. This kind of fruit offers such a richness in active principles that they are a real “natural aspirin”. Moreover cherries offer many carotenes, folic acids and they are excellent alcalinizants of the body.

      The stems of the cherries are often used as tea, they are known for their decongestant qualities and are recommended to combat diseases like the goad, cystitis, capillary fragility and renal calculi. Another useful part of the cherry- tree is the bark, known for its antipyretic and anti- goat properties. The cherries are also rich in flavonoids, known for their antioxidant and purifying qualities. They contribute to a reduction of the cholesterol level and are recommended to cure arthritis and arteriosclerosis. The cherry can also be used as juice and it contains good quantities of melatonin, the substance which favors the sleep and it’s moreover rich in fibres, which support the feeling of satiety. These fruits are also good for diabetics and they stimulate the production of collagen, fundamentally important for the youth of the skin. The cherry skin has anti- caries qualities, therefor important for the teeth- healthiness. The malic acid of the cherries stimulates the liver activity. 

    • curry

      Curry is a mixture of typical spices belonging to the Indian cucine, which flavours meat, fish and egg dishes and has an ocher color. There exist various kinds of curry, which are all more or less spicy, according to the flavour. One curry mixture is made of: curcuma, fenugreek, caraway, chili, nutmeg, cloves, star anise, cedar, coriander, black pepper, red pepper, ginger, tamarind, mustard. The curry is a stimulant of the gastric juices and represents an excellent anti- tumoral agent.

      Actually the Indian rarely suffer from tumors or other degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. Curry is also an excellent antioxidant agent, which delays the aging. This mixture supports the metabolism, it’s also beneficial for people who suffer from problems at the intestine, the liver, rheuma, it supports the sight, and it’s especially efficient against uveitis. The curry protects from melanomas, breast cancer and bowel cancer.

    • fennel

      The fennel is a vegetable which is known for its adipsous, hydrating, refreshing and diuretic qualities. Actually 90% of it consists of water and it contains the following minerals: potassium, calcium, phophor, zinc, magnesium, manganese and selenium. Selenium is a very powerful antioxidant and there exist three kinds of this vegetable: the sweet fennel, the bitter fennel and the normal garden fennel, which everybody knows. The fennel is a typical vegetable of the Mediterranean cuicine and it is very rich in fibres with laxative properties. Therefor this vegetable is recommended to lose weight.

      The fennel is a women’s friend, since it contains many phytoestrogens, which contrast menstrual problems and problems during the menopause. This veg can be consumed raw, as salad, cooked in the oven…even the fennel seeds are known for their digestive, sedative and refreshing qualities. They can be prepared in as tea, also for children. The leaves of the wild fennel are an ingredient of the famous “pasta con le sarde” of Sicily. The fennel is rich in vitamin A, vitamins of the group B and C, it cleans the blood and the liver, it has anti- inflammatory effects on the colon. Moreover the fennel has carminative, spasmolytic, expectorant, liver- protecting and moodlifting qualities.

      Fennel is recommended in case of colics at children, to cure meteorism, aerophagy, renal calcoli, nausea, dysmenorrhea, nervous galstralgias, gastroesophageal reflux disease. The fennel stimulates the digestion and the appetite, calms the cough, cleans the blood. There exists also the essential fennel oil, which is known for its anti- fungoid, antioxidant, antibacterial properties. The tea and the aromatic fennel water have decongestioning effects on the eyes and are particularly beneficial in case of conjuctivitis and blepharitis.

    • flax-seeds

      The therapeutic effects of flax seeds are known since numerous centuries, flax seeds were very common in the so- called “convent medicine” and were used to treat abscesses, hemorrhoids and inflammations. They keep the body clean as they are very rich in: mucilage, vitamins B1, B2, E and F, mineral salts, proteins, omega 3 and omega 6. They support the intestinal motility, are excellent antioxidants and anti- tumoral agents, they stimulate the immune system, protect against intolerations and from various cardiovascular problems, they clean the body from toxic agents.

      Flax seed oil cleans the intestine and the whole digerent system, the skin and the kidneys. Moreover flax seeds are very recommended during pregnancy, since they support the development of the fetus brain. Flax seeds can also be a good device to give the hair more softness and nourishment. It’s possible to prepare a kind of gel at home using 80 g of flax seeds, one teaspoon of lemon and a pinch of salt.

      Put the seeds into a strainer, put it into a recipient so that the seeds remain covered by water. Cover it with a lid and let it rest for the whole night. The day after cook the mix for about 5 minutes, but not boiling it! The mixture becomes denser, when it is dense enough, remove it from the fire and let it cool down. Then mix it with the other ingredients. This natural gel deteriorates very fast, so it’s better to freeze it. This natural gel is an excellent balm to give the hair more brilliancy!

    • fondant-chocolate

      Fondant chocolate isn’t only delicious to eat, but it’s also rich in magnesium and antioxidants! It’s better not to eat too much as it contains calories. Two small squares a day are sufficient. Actually it’s scientifically proved that this kind of chocolate doesn’t causes acne, but it’s an excellent anti-tumoral. Studying the indigenous population of Panama, which is accustomed to the daily consummation of bitter cacao, scientists noticed the total absence of several kinds of cancer, of arterial plaques and of other cardio-circulatory problems.

      The higher the percentage of cacao in the chocolate, the better are the antioxidant and anti-tumoral agents. Because of this the best choice is the extra- fondant chocolate. It’s also a very good protection against UV- radiation, it repairs the skin of stretch marks and helps to maintain under control the pre- menstrual symptoms, it stimulates the cerebral functions and is also an excellent antidepressant!

    • goji

      The Goji berries are like the wild strawberries, they have a big success among the Hollywood stars. Among the fans of this fruit are stars such as Madonna, Mischa Barton, Liz Hurley or Kate Moss. These berries are rich in the vitamins A,B,C,E, various mineral salts, amino acids , linoleic acid, calcium; they are very recommended for people who are lactose intolerant. The Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, they hinder the following diseases: allergies, insomnia, constipation, tiredness, inflammations, cancer or degenerative diseases.

      They stimulize the metabolism and the immune system, they regulate the sugar level of the blood and hinder the formation of “bad” cholesterol.

    • grapefruit-seed-extract

      The Grapefruit Seed Extract is real natural pharmacy! Actually it acts upon 800 bacterial strains and upon 100 kinds of fungus and parasites. The therapeutic action of this extract is very efficient without any side action for human. It’s also an efficient antiseptic, anti- bacterial and anti-viral agent.

This tea contains little caffeine, so it can be consumed without problems even in the evening, alleviating anxiety and stress.

      Therefore a common quote in the Orient says: “Tea is liquid wisdom”. For not destroying its precious vitamins, the water during the preparation should not surpass the 75 – 80°. The tea bag or the leaves should remain in the water for about 2-3 minutes.


    • griffonia

      The “Griffonia Simplicifolia” is a plant which has its roots in the African tropical regions, especially in Togo, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. This plant was discovered in recent times by the European herbalists. The plant is an excellent “neurotransmitter”, which supports the dialogue between the nervous cells of the human body. The griffonia is useful in case of anxiety, insomnia, irritability, depression (also seasonal), migraine and some forms of fibromialgia.

      The griffonia is also useful to avoid the nervous hunger, especially the lust for sweets. The griffonia is available in the form of pastilles in pharmacy or in various biological stores. This plant is also helpful during the menopause, to combat the typical hot flashs. 

    • The horseradish known as Armoracia rusticana and Meerrettich, is often used in sausages in order to give flavor to meats, eggs, fish and salads. This plant has a pungent flavor similar to mustard and is very well known especially in Central and northern Europe. A variation of the beige and light coloured horseradish of Europe is the green Japanese one, which is used to prepare the famous “Wasabi” sausage for Sushi. The aromatic herb is used in the Italian Region Basilicata in order to season omelets and cheeses as the famous “pecorino” or the Savoy cabbage soup. The horseradish has digestive, warming, disinfectant, diuretic, antibiotic, depurative, anti- catarrh, immunology and circulation stimulating, sweating, anti-bacterial, skin irritation, anti-spasmodic, bile production, laxative, eupeptic, anti-scurvy qualities.

      The horseradish is advised in order to heal urine diseases, illness from cold, bad digestion, inflammation, burn, skin and bladder inflammations, conical tiredness, bronchitis, gastric disease, biliary litiasis, gout, rheumatism, flue, anaemia, slight hypertension, acne, torn muscle, arthritis pain and in tablets. This herb is not advisable during pregnancy, breast feeding, hyper thyroid, intestinal and kidney problems, stomach acidity and gastric and duodenum ulcer. The horseradish is rich on magnesium, sodium, vitamin C of the group B, calcium, sulphur, chlorine, iron and copper. The horseradish infusion is very good for healing rheumatism and problems on the bile tracts. While the horseradish juice is advisable for healing scurvy. The plant has also a beneficial effect against parasites of the dogs digestion system.


    • krill-oil

      Krill oil it’s the last discovery of the nutritionists, it’s 48 times more efficient than normal fish oil and it’s free from heavy metals, since krill lives in the freezy waters of the Antarctic. Wales, calamars, penguins and pinnipeds are eating krill. Persons who eat krill noticed the following effects: less moodiness, a better cardio- vascular function, a better function of the liver and of the immune system, better sportive merit, better memory, smoother joints, a stabile blood sugar level, no pyrosis. Krill oil is one of the aliments, which contiains the most quantity of antioxidants, it has anti- inflammatory and antitumoral qualities.

      It contains the following vitamins: A,D,E. Moreover it is excellent for diabetics. It prevents the Alzheimer’s disease and varicose veins, it stimulates the immune system of newborns. Krill oil helps to keep the arteries clean, it’s available in pharmacies, but before taking it, it’s better to consult a doctor. If someone’s allergic against seafood, there could appear problems. 

    • licorice

      Some know the licorice in the form of sticks, while others in the form of black candies. These candiese reached the commerce in Italy in the thirties, particularly in the tobacco shops, to alleviate the smoker’s desire, while before the licorice was primarly used in pharmacy. The therapeutic qualities of licorice were already known in the ancient Egypt, where some of it was actually found in the Pharaoh’s tombs. In the kitchen the licorice is used to prepare sweets and pastries, but also to perpare sauces which accompany fish, meat or risotti. The lirorice belongs to the botanic family “Leguminosae”, its vegetable extract is gained by the roots across boiling.

      The licorice can be consumed as tea, infusion, powder, juice and pastilles. This plant has its roots in Asia, where 5000 years ago it was used to treat the cough. In the XV° century it reached Europe thanks to the Dominican. Licorice has adipsous, anti- inflammatory, expectorant qualities, it stimulizes the blood pressure, the digestive system, it alleviates cough, it has aromatizing, aperitive, laxative, anti- inflammatory, antibacterial, anti- viral, sweetening, antioxidant, anti- tumoral, purifying and diuretic qualities. In Calabria there is available a liqueur based on licorice, moreover the region is the major Italian producer of licorice. In Egypt they sell the so- called “sus”, which is licorice- extract diluted in water, it has adipsous properties. Moreover licorice treats the following disease: sore throat, low pressure, eczemas, psoriasis, dermatitis, herpes, cough, catarrh, slowly digestion, acidity of stomach, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, congestion, too much cholesterol. According to the Chinese medicine, licorice treats the cough, catarrh, liver problems and alimentar intoxications.

    • nettle

      The nettle is an excellent remineralizing agent, moreover it has purifying, antianemic, diuretic, restorative, tonic, astringent, hemostatic, antiallergic, immune stimulant properties. The nettle grows nearby everywhere and is excellent to accompany rice, pasta, egg, meat dishes or soups. The nettle helps in case of hay fever, cystitis and infections of the urinary tract. If immerged into boiled water or even 12 hours after picking it the nettle loses its pricking effect. After boiling it, the nettle can be added to different dishes.

      This plant has anti- inflammatory qualities, moreover it is an efficient device against dandruff, it gives the hair more force. This plant alleviates intestine inflammations and inflammations of the osteomuscular system in a very efficient way, moreover it helps in case of elevated cholesterol. The nettle contains a lot of vitamin A, C and K, potassium, manganese, silicium, calcium, brimstone, organic acids. This plant is excellent against arthrosis, gout, rheumatism and arthritis. It can be used in the form of infusion, mother tincture, tea, juice or fresh. Affections which can be alleviated with nettle are: anemia, overweight, liver problems, hemorroids, sciatica, cardiac insufficiency, kidney problems, fragile hair and nails, physical and mental stress, insect bites, dermatosis, diarrhea. The infusion of nettle is excellent against parasites on plants. 

    • noni

      Noni is a Polynesian, greenish fruit, by the indigenous people it’s seen as “the mother of all plants” because it has numerous qualities, so much that it represents a holy plant. This kind of fruit in the Occident was discovered relatively late, because of its flavor, which isn’t the best. It can be consumed as a juice or directly as fruit. The noni fruit is very efficient to combat tiredness and is also very known for its anti- inflammatory, anti-tumoral, antibacterial, immune stimulant, re- mineralizing, freshening, antioxidant, lenitive and analgesic properties.

      The habitants of the Samoa islands use it to combat gastrointestinal problems such as constipation, diarrhea at children, ulcer and intestinal parasites. The noni juice is a very efficient agent in case of insomnia as well, as it stimulates the production of melatonin. In the Occident it’s possible to find it in form of juice or dry extract.

    • From the olive tree we get the Bach Flower Remedies “Olive”, which is advisable for persons who feel vacant because of too much work, emotional crisis or for suffering an injustice and who just want to sleep and “vegetate”. Their favorite sentence is “I am exhausted”. The olive is a typical Mediterranean plant which was considered a real sacred tree by ancient Greeks and if someone felt a tree he was punished with death. The olive was used also by Greece to crown the winner of the Olympics. According to the Greek Mythology it was the goddess Athena who gave the olive to humanity. The olive oil is obtained from the fruits of this plant and is the symbol of the “Mediterranean diet” known in the whole world because of its soothing and anti-cancer proprieties. A simple and natural purgative is for example the following: 1 spoon of olive taken before meals in the morning. By now this plant is very known for wellness, and the peelings of olive stone, face and hair pack are very famous. The olive is also rich on sodium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron and manganese. The olive leaves taken as infusions or herb tea have hypoglycemic, diuretic, vasodilator, anti-gout, anti-rheumatic, depurative, anti-uric, immunology stimulating, anti-mycosis, anti-fever and hepatic activity stimulating, hair strengthen, anti-bacterial, antiviral, anti- free radicals, anti-arthritis and vermicide qualities. The olive exists also as a mother tincture and an glycerin extract.

      The plant is also an excellent adjuvant against obesity, hemorrhoids, athlete’s foot, diabetes, urinary tracts infections, mycosis, wart, anger, ringworm, Lyme disease, Zoster herpes, ear infection, different kinds of hepatitis, streptococcus, colic, biliary litiasis, mucous inflammation and constipation. The olive oil has beneficial effects for the children’s bone growth and for the calcification. In order to drop fever over 39 degrees you can use a simple natural remedy: boiling some olive leaves in water and drink as soon as lukewarm. In order to strengthen nails and soften hands and skin you have to put them into lukewarm olive oil together with lemon juice.

      The olive plant has also beneficial effects against children’s’ ear infection; take a cotton bud, moist it into lukewarm olive oil and in 5 drops of essential oil of lavender and then touch the ear until the pain disappears. The olive oil melts also the ear wax, therefore we use 20 drops of lukewarm olive oil and let it act for 5 minutes. After we turn to the other site in order to let come out the oil.


    • onion

      The onion, especially the red one from Tropea, is a real natural antibiotic and has moreover antibacterial properties. It’s known for its depurative, vermifuge, mucolytic, freshening, hyperglycemic, anti- anemic, blood- fluidifizing and diuretic effects. The red onion from Tropea is an excellent protection against colon cancer as well, thanks to its richness in quercetin. It helps to prevent Parkinson or the Alzheimer’s disease. The onions are actually very rich in vitamin A,B,D,E, and mineral salts such as: potassium, sodium, zinc, iron, fibers, calcium, iodine, selenium, nickel and copper.

      The onion is beneficial to combat hypertension, urinary tract infections, tiredness, arteriosclerosis, breathing problems, diarrhea, ascetism, diabetes, prostate problems, warts, intestinal problems, laryngitis, rheumatisms, asthma, tonsillitis, neuralgia.

    • orthosiphon

      The orthosiphon is also called “Java tea” and it’s famous because of its purifying, virostatic, antibacterial, anti- allergenic, spasmolytic and diuretic properties. Women know it because of its anti- cellulitis properties, moreover it represents a real magic bullet against cystitis and against infections of the urinary tract. This tea has its origins in Inonesia and grows spontaneously also in Australia and India, it’s recommended in case of problems with the kidneys.

      Moreover it keeps under control the arterious pressure and is recommended in case of gout, too much uric acid, rheumatic and athritic diseases, diabetes, thanks to its hypoglycemic qualities. Orthosiphon can be consumed as infusion, brew, tea, in the form of capsules, dry extract, fluid extract, mother tincture.

      It is contraindicated under 18 years, in children, in pregnant women and during lactation. If regularly consumed this beverage has a choleretic, colagoge and stimulant effect on the liver. Orthosiphon can be consumed without or with other draining substances like for example birch, dandelion or green tea. 

    • papaya

      Papaya is one of the most known tropical fruits, also called “fruta de bomba” in the latin-american countries because of its various qualities. It’s rich in vitamin A,C,E, in minerals such as phosphor, calcium, iron and magnesium. Papaya has even antioxidant, anti- tumoral, digestive, diuretic, immunostimulant, proteolytic, cheratolitic, eutrophic, antiseptic and laxative qualities. Furthermore it’s very efficient to contrast the onset of degenerative diseases such as the Alzheimer’s diseas or Parkinson, cardiocircular, skin or otorinolaringoiatry diseases.

      This kind of fruit stimulates and promotes the cerebral activity, it purifies the blood and makes it more fluid. It favors the emptying of the intestine, it helps the excretory organs and stimulates the metabolism.

    • plantain

      The plantain is a herb which grows spontaneously all over Europe. Even if at first sight it seems to be a weed, it’s known for its beneficial qualities such as hemostatic, emollient, ophtalmic, astringent, expectorant, antibacterial, lenitive, catarrh alleviating, decongesting, antiallergic, cicatrizant, itch alleviating, refreshing, purifying, diuretic, antianemic, hydrating, anti- rheumatic and diaphoretic properties. According to astrology plantain is connected to the planet of mart and to the zodiac signs of Aries and Scoprion.

      This plant is particularly recommended for diseases caused by a cold and rainy clime. The plantain contains the vitamins A, C, K, mucilage, pectins, flavonoids, tannins. Plantain is efficient in case of congestion, renal calculi, stomach problems, mouth and throat infections, ulcer, wounds, burns, cough, dermatosis, acne rosacea, respiratory problems, irritated mucous membrane, insect bites, diarrhea, gingivitis, tracheitis, glandular inflammations, dry skin, anaudia, anal fissures, breast fissures, allergies, varicous veins, conjuctivitis, inflamed eyes, blisters, croakiness.

    • Radicchio is a red- coloured salad, used row or boiled as side dish for meat or fish, to prepare omelets, to dress pasta or risotti and for several other dishes. One of the most famous kinds of radicchio is that of Chioggia in Italy, which obtained the IGP denomination. The early varieties are available already in October, they have a sweet flavour, whereas the later varieties which are available in February have a more bitter flavour. Other Italian regions where the radicchio is cultivated are: Lombardy, Marche, the Abruzzi, Emila Romagna or Apulia. Over centuries the radicchio represented the so-called food for the poor people in the Venetian fields, available also in winter- the most difficult period during the year.

      The radicchio was also common in Greece and among the Romans, which knew its sedative qualities, proper to treat insomnia. Radicchio came to the Veneto in the XV century. Other varieties of radicchio, which received the IGP denomination are: radicchio of Verona and radicchio of Castelfranco Veneto. This salad is very rich in potassium, phosphor, folic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, copper, chrome, selenium, iodine and arsenic. Moreover it contains a lot of precious vitamins such as K, C, P, vitamins from the B group. It has purifying, tonic, diuretic, laxative, anti- tumoral, colagoge, antibacterial, detoxificating, stomachic, eupeptic, anti- malaria, blood- cleaning, antianemic, antipyretic properties. Moreover it activates the digestive and nervous system. Radicchio has also excellent satiable qualities, it contains only small quantities of calories, excellent for persons who want to lose weight. Moreover it’s recommended for people who suffer from hypertension.

      Radicchio is rich in folic acid, therefor it’s proper for future mothers and helps to maintain the right bone density. Radicchio is also recommended to purify the liver, to cure diabetes, insomnia, rheumatism, arthritis, arthrosis, ascendance and skin affections such as psoriasis. The boiled radicchio leaves are an excellent device against furuncles and irritated skin. The radicchio juice is used in the cosmetic industry to calm irritated skin. This vegetable can be used to prepare infusions and brews. Radicchio syrup is helpful in case of anaudia. Therefor it’s especially recommended for orators, singers, actors and teacher. 

    • rice

      In the Orient rice has been used over centuries, while it came in Italy only in the fifteenth century.       The South African women use cold rooibos for a beauty mask: they let cool down the tea, then they sop a cotton cloth into it and pass it all over the face. The quantity of antioxidants and anti- tumoral agents contained in rooibos are comparable with the black tea or the green tea, which makes of it a real elixier for a long life. Furthermore this kind of fish is very rich in fatty acids, which are very useful to “keep clean” the blood and to “setup” collagen, which is the main support for a young skin. Therefor many stars such as Madonna or Noel Gallagher are great fans of salmon. The fatty acids are moreover able to fluidify the blood and to contrast the emergence of affections such as senile dementia, the Alzheimer’s disease and that of Parkinson.

      The daily necessity of fatty acids is about 700 mg, contained into 30 g of salmon. Futhermore this fish contains a lot of important vitamins and minerals: A, B and D group, magnesium and iodine. This aliment is very important for a correct function of the thyroid and for those who want to lose weight, since it stimulates the metabolism. Moreover salmon is rich in proteins, therefor it represents an excellent alternative to red meat. Actually the salmon is an efficient anti- tumoral agent and is recommended to treat rheumatoid arthritis and to prevent osteoporosis.

In the kitchen it is used to flavour the dishes, instead of lemon. This plant is also an excellent bleacher of rust and ink stains, it represents an excellent detergent of copper objects. In the flower- language the sheep sorrel symbolizes the sense of mother protection and love. The farmers notice the beginning of the rain, since the sheep sorrel bends her leaves before the rain begins. This plant is contraindicated in case of kidney diseases and it’s important to respect the prescribed dosis. In homeopathy the sheep sorrel is used to cure acne and blains. The American Indian used this plant to clean purulent ulcers.

    • stevia

      Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana) is a South American plant which has it’s origins in Brazil and Paraguay. This plant has a 20 time greater sweetening capacity than sugar…and it has no calories. The sweetening agent is due to the steviol glucosides, obtained by the pulverization of its leaves. One teaspoon of Stevia has the same sweetening power as a cup of sugar. If used for breakfast to sweeten the tea or the coffee, Stevia reduces the wish of noudles, pizza, sweets, alcohol all over the day, controling the level of blood sugar. Stevia has an after taste of licorice and can tranquilly be used to prepare various sweets and cakes. 

    • tomatoes

      Walnuts are very rich in fatty acids, vitamins of the group B, moreover they have excellent anti- tumoral, hypoglycemizing and antioxidant qualities, thanks to the presence of vitamin E,PP,K,A and C. They are rich in minerals such as magnesium, phosphor and potassium, they are friends of the brain, since they stimulate the brain acitivity and also the heart activity. They keep clean the arteries. The recommended quantity consits of 3 walnuts a day. Actually 100 g of walnuts provide 580 kcal. The walnuts are rich in alpha- linolenic acid, known for its diuretic properties.

      Moreover these fruits have laxative, energetic, vermicidial, anti- anemic, draining, remineralizing qualities. They are recommended for sportsmen, since the arginine is an excellent dilater of the vessels, the oxigenation of the muscles becomes better. It stimulates the immune system, it has stomachic and re- mineralizing qualities. It’s also prescribed to treat avitaminosis, dermatitis or rachitis. The yeast helps to maintain the hair healthy, giving it more volume. It’s enough putting 10 pieces of yeast into two fingers of water and let it there the whole night. When the pieces are solved, they can be mixed with the habitual shampoo. The yeast - cream is excellent to treat eczemas, psoriasis, wounds, oily or impure skin. Women which are affected by this kind of skin can try this mask: mix 1 spoon of yeast powder with some natural yogurt, until you have a homogeneous cream. Spread the cream on your face, let it there for about 10- 15 minutes, than wash it with tepid water.
