      Wellness and skiing

      More and more persons choose to comine wellness with skiing, since many mountain localities offer numerous elegant health resorts. The best equipped region of Italy for this kind of holiday is South Tyrol, it belongs to the first Italian regions, which understands the enormous potential of wellness holidays. Beside from offering numerous skiing regions such as St. Ulrich, Corvara or Wolkenstein and Innichen, this region offers the possibility to practice skiing in thermal localities as for instance Meran, St. Martin in Thurn and Rasen Antholz. 


      Meran is the most common thermal destination in South Tyrol, since it was visited by the European nobilty already during the so-called Belle Epoque. Its thermal waters are distinguished by a radioactive basis and could be used for differend therapies: balneotherapy, fangotherapy, inhalations, areosoltherapy, whirlpool, irrigations. These therapies are excellent to treat: endocrine, gynecological, cardiovascular, osteoarticular, urinary problems, as well as skin problems. The thermal spring of Meran offers also the package “Therm & Ski”, which allows to ski in the skiing region Merano 2000 at the morning and then relaxing 3 hours in the thermal spring at the afternoon, lending a towel.


      St. Martin in Thurn is situated in Val Badia, the second Ladin valley in South Tyrol after the Val Gardena. Its therapeutic waters are of sulfate- calcic character, they are cold. The thermal waters of this locality are used in balneotherapies and hydrotherapies. They treat the following diseases: vascular, nervous, skin, rheumatic, gynecological. The third thermal destination of South Tyrol is Rasen Antholz, located in the Hochpustertal. This is the mekka of biathlon, since every year in January there is taking place the World Championship in this discipline. The thermal water of Rasen Antholz has oligomineral cold properties and is used in the form of balneotherapy and hydrotherapy to treat: stomach, kidney problems, metabolism, gynecological and endocrine affections.


      In Trentino there are located other localities where to combine wellness with skiing: Pejo, Levico Terme, Pozza di Fassa, Comano, Rabbi, Roncegno. In Lombardy even the famous skiing resort Bormio represents a thermal destination, as well as the Val Másino. Both the destinations are located in the Valtellina. The first offers thermal waters with sulfate- alcaline- earthy- radioactive properties, which are used in antrotherapy, balneotherapy, fangotherapy, hydrotherapy, aerosoltherapy, inhalations, irrigations. The Val Másino offers thermal springs with sulfate- calcic- radioactive qualities. These waters are used for hydrotherapies, balneotherapies, inhalations and irrigations, to treat the following diseases: digestive, gynecological, nevralgic, skin, hepatic diseases.
